Course description

We apply various tools of performance technology such as live electronics, new music performing devices and interfaces, sound syntheses or DSP (Digital Sound Processing) to free group improvisation practice in order to find out, develop and discuss new possibilities of live music making with technology. Guest improvisers are occasionally invited to join the session and present their thoughts on music. The course functions as a new composers’ forum, sharing thoughts, ideas and music together in a creative and inspiring way. Depending on the participants’ interests and wishes it is also possible to arrange a more technical session some time during the course. At the end of the course we also organize a concert.

For whom is this course?

The course is open to anyone and everyone interested in music, improvisation and the utilization of technology. We do expect You to have some knowledge on basic music programming.

Time and place

The course will be held at the Chamber Music Hall (Sibelius Academy, Pohjoinen Rautatienkatu 9, 2^nd floor) from Sept./Oct. 2005 – April 2006. Sessions will be held on two evenings per month at dates later to be announced.

Credits

7 sp:s (ECTS). Please check for more specific crediting separately.

Course leader

Shinji Kanki, composer. Guest improvisers will also be invited to join the sessions at times, more info on these at a later time.

Fee: 15 euros registration fee.
